Funen County is situated in the centre of Denmark. The
county consists of Denmarks second-largest island and 90 other
large and small islands where 25 of these small islands are inhabited.
Funen is connected to rest of Denmark by bridges and a tunnel. The
railroad and highway crossing Funen is major transport routes between
Scandinavia and Germany.

Business Location
Traditionally Funen was a region with a strong
economy based on agriculture, iron and metal working, ship building
and production of machinery. The traditional industries today have
developed high international competitivenes through use of advanced
production technologies and materials. Shipbuilding and production
of transportation equipment are important sectors. The industry is
characterised by a few large companies and many smes working
on a global arena as subsupliers.
Funen has the largest cluster of horticulture, floriculture
and seed production in Denmark. This production both outdoor and in
the greenhouses constitutes a basis for high quality food production.
Food for health has special attention in the region.
ICT, robot technology and biotech/medico are rapidly
growing business sectors supported by world class competences in South
Denmark University and other research and education centres.

County of Funen participates in STRINNOP in collaboration
with International Science Park Odense, Funen Industrial Development
Centre and Information Society Funen. The County and the Information
Society operates on the strategic level and with specific development
projects.
International Science Park Odense is the meeting place
for the regional industry and research institutions. It is the place
where researchers can test their ideas in the real world and where
companies can get assistance with their research and development.
The International Science Park Odense provides an environment which
encourages this interaction.
