Business Location

In recent years Schleswig-Holstein has undergone a very intensive structural change. Once dominated by agriculture, tourism and shipbuilding industries Schleswig-Holstein today is home to promising branches and modern technologies.
Information and communication technology, medical engineering and biotechnology have greatly gained in significance. Nowadays medical engineering for itself contributes on a bigger scale to regional value added and employment than shipbuilding industry, which has also developed to a high tech branch.

Key factor of the good performance of Schleswig-Holstein is the strong focus on creating a better traffic-, research- and especially technological- infrastructure. With regard to the latter one can identify an increasing number of high-tech start-ups established, as an crucial element and driving force in making contributions toward economic growth, employment and structural change. All in all the achieved success is also evidenced by the larger amount of investments of foreign companies in Schleswig-Holstein.

Beyond that the Baltic Sea, as an economic and cultural area, nowadays is an essential part of the Schleswig-Holstein policies and economic strategies.
